Steven Norris, failed Conservative candidate in the London mayoral

elections, has joined Citigate Public Affairs as a consultant.

The former MP, transport minister and businessman said: ’I don’t pretend

to be a PR professional.’ But he will offer experience and contacts.

’What I bring is grey hair, an enormous Rolodex, considerable practical

business experience and an instinct for good messaging and

campaigning.’

In return, he said that Citigate will provide ’infrastructure

support’.

His own advisory business, Steve Norris Limited, will effectively be

dormant while he is with Citigate, although he will continue to service

clients such as bus operator FirstCapital and web designer The Internet

Corporation.

Although Norris is based at Citigate Public Affairs, he will work across

the group.

He categorically denied that he had been offered a formal PR role in the

Tories’ next general election campaign (PR Week, 26 May), but reiterated

he is willing to help. ’I have talked to William Hague and we discussed

how I could continue my involvement,’ he said. ’It is an ongoing

discussion.’
