Public Sector: The Public Sector Week

Pelican PR has been appointed by Metskill Academy, part of Semta (the Sector Skills Council for Science, Engineering and Manufacturing Technologies), to show the benefits of apprenticeships in the metals industry. The campaign promotes apprenticeships to young people in the Black Country.

The Department of Health has said that Freud Communications will continue to promote its Change4Life anti-obesity drive, after Health Secretary Andrew Lansley's called on the private sector to fund the campaign. Edinburgh City Council is asking residents to help shape future services through an engagement programme, giving them the opportunity to communicate their priorities for council expenditure in the run up to the Budget in February.

The CIPR Local Public Services Excellence in Communications Awards 2010 has opened for entries. The closing date is 30 July, with an extension date of 6 August. The awards will be presented at a dinner on 22 October at the Grand Hotel, Brighton.

COI non-executive board director Marilyn Baxter is retiring after seven years in post. Baxter, previously vice-chairman of Saatchi and Saatchi and chairman of research company Hall & Partners, leaves to go sailing across the Atlantic.
