Those under consideration include Professor Anne Gregory, director of the Centre for Public Relations at Leeds Met, and lobbying consultant and former CIPR president Lionel Zetter.

The organisation is offering about £85,000 annually for the post, considerably lower than the package Colin Farrington was on, which was believed to be about £125,000.

A new post of director of policy and comms is also being created to help the CIPR engage more effectively with members.

The search brief is being handled by VMA Group's Claire Tuffin.
