Rocket will be lobbying the utility industry and regulators Ofgem and DECC to investigate long-range radio as a network to support smart meters, which will be introduced into all UK homes by 2020.

Smart meters will be used to identify consumption of energy in more detail than a standard energy meter to allow information to be sent back to the local utility provider for monitoring and billing purposes.

The agency will target and educate the energy industry on the critical requirements for smart meter technology through an integrated traditional and digital brief.

Pete Hendrick, MD at Rocket, said: 'As sustainability becomes an ever increasing priority for the business world, we are seeing an increase in demand for technology solutions that will help meet Government sustainability targets including the Energy Efficiency Scheme.'
