DIARY: Awards night hits new highs as PROs mingle with soapy celebrities

The PR Week Awards passed off without significant embarrassment last week, unless you count our star John Travolta lookalike, who certainly got into the groove of the occasion. To show how much we appreciate his game approach, if he reveals his identity to staff at PR Week, a bottle of bubbly will be waiting for him.

The PR Week Awards passed off without significant embarrassment

last week, unless you count our star John Travolta lookalike, who

certainly got into the groove of the occasion. To show how much we

appreciate his game approach, if he reveals his identity to staff at PR

Week, a bottle of bubbly will be waiting for him.

On the day of the event, the PR Week office had been inundated with

calls from newspapers asking what R-JH chairman Sophie Wessex had won

and what time she might be making an appearance.

Sadly for them, the countess managed to avoid press attention completely

by mingling with a handy group of soap stars as soon as she arrived,

thus enabling her to enter the hotel unrecognised.

After the jollity of the awards, presented by lugubrious host Jack Dee,

guests eventually flocked rather inevitably to the residents’ bar for

further imbibulation.

Here, a gallery of TV personalities from Emmerdale, Coronation Street

and The Bill mingled with a heady mixture of PR professionals and PR

Week staff until the wee hours.

APCO’s managing director, Nick De Luca, propped up the bar with the

celebs, while PR Week’s editor and advertising manager did a sterling

job of staying upright well past their bedtimes.
