DIARY: Seaside rendezvous is fortuitous for a ’new’ salt

Caroline Neave, a senior account executive at Hill and Knowlton, on an

Easter break with boyfriend Alex, began chatting with neighbour, Mike

Fairchild, on holiday with wife Pat. They soon discovered that had a

common interest in sailing, and PR.

Alex loves sailing but Caroline had never sailed before, but was keen to

try her hand. The problem was solved by Mike, who readers will know best

as the author of the Public Relations Research and Evaluation Toolkit,

whose yacht is moored in Fowey.

While jibbing and tacking in choppy waters, our two PROs claim they did

not have time to talk shop. Shame, because we can now reveal that newly

hooked-on-sailing Caroline can add a new dimension to her work on one of

H&K’s accounts - BT Global Challenge, also known as ’the world’s

toughest yacht race’
