Air Miles recruits Merriweather as first PR manager

Air Miles, the British Airways loyalty scheme, has appointed Joanne Merriweather as its first PR manager.

Air Miles, the British Airways loyalty scheme, has appointed Joanne

Merriweather as its first PR manager.

The appointment of Merriweather follows a decision to centralise the

press office function. According to Merriweather, communications

inquiries were previously handled by various departments including

marketing.

Merriweather reports to Judith Thorne, one of Air Miles’ two joint

managing directors - the other is Wanda Goldwag. The press office is

currently two-strong with no specific plans to increase it, said

Merriweather. Air Miles retains Jackie Cooper PR for consumer PR.

Merriweather joins from The Body Shop where she was PR manager, heading

the UK press team of four. That position is being managed temporarily by

Jonathan Gregory.

Merriweather’s appointment comes after unconfirmed reports earlier this

year that BA was to float Air Miles as a separate operation.

Merriweather dismissed the reports as speculation.

BA is aiming to expand the scheme’s customer base from 6.5 million to

ten million over the next three years and wants to boost its on-line

operations.
