PR team: CIPR student rep Ekaterina Aleksandrova
Timescale: February-May 2010
Budget: £50

London Metropolitan University CIPR rep Ekaterina Aleksandrova ran a competition among PR students, to win a one-month internship with a leading agency. The agencies involved were Lansons Communications, PHA Media and Phoenix.

Objectives

- To promote the CIPR

- To promote London Metropolitan University

- To connect employers with interns.

Strategy and plan

An event was held to bring together students and PR agencies. Students had to fight it out for an internship with one of the three agencies. Representatives from the agencies briefed students, who worked in groups to present ideas. Judges from the agencies then scored the students on their performances. A blog, Facebook page and Twitter feed were kept updated with details of the competition.

Measurement and evaluation

The story appeared on the London Met website and in magazines including Behind the Spin and Profile. The story was also picked up in Aleksandrova's native Russia.

Results

There were more than 30 enquiries from students, with 15 shortlisted finalists. The project won silver in the London Met Student Awards 2009-10 and the university has suggested Aleksandrova should organise the event annually.
