Public Sector: The Public Sector Week

Hillingdon Council has kicked off a summer campaign warning motorists of the penalties and dangers they face if they drink and drive. As residents watched the England v Germany World Cup match on Sunday, a series of posters and beer mats were displayed in sports pubs around the borough highlighting the risks.

Ken Livingstone has announced that Labour MP Karen Buck will head his campaign against the impact of government cuts. Livingstone, who hopes to be Labour's candidate in the London Mayoral election in 2012, said Buck will advise on the development of housing policy in London. Buck is MP for Westminster North.

Bradford Council is planning a campaign to persuade residents to recycle more. It is aimed at people who are aware of recycling, but have not yet considered doing it, or have recycled sporadically, but not committed to it wholeheartedly. The council's executive member for environment and sustainability, Ghazanfer Khaliq, said: 'We want to encourage people who have not considered recycling or are against it, to change their mind and make more of an effort to help the local authority increase recycling figures. It really is time to bin the excuses and help us to reduce the impact the district has on the planet.'
