Diary: Norris tries to be a legend in his own lunchtime

The first annual Women in PR lunch of the new millennium was held

at Monte’s in SW1 last week.

Guest of honour was Conservative candidate for mayor Steven Norris. The

self-styled ’thinking man’s Arthur Daley’ shamelessly used the lunch as

an electioneering platform to not only push his own case for election,

but also to remind other guests of the evils of Ken Livingstone and the

GLC.

And if any Conservative voters out there were afraid that their party

did not have the belly to put up a good fight, Norris also generously

offered his views on a gamut of issues, ranging from stop and search,

through to the euro and the homeless.

However, Norris also informed the gathering that campaigning to be

elected London mayor wasn’t all about long lunches - oh no. Apparently

he couldn’t wait to finish ’this relentless, tedious campaigning’.

He still seemed to enjoy his lunch though.
