Press Association (PA) has hired Rosie Cowan as political editor

for Ireland. Cowan, who has also been named deputy editor for Ireland,

joined PA’s Belfast office a year ago from the Belfast Telegraph, where

she was business editor.

Her role is a new one at PA, which has decided to increase its political

coverage as activity in Northern Ireland’s assembly gathers pace. The

assembly has existed for a year in shadow form, but is due to assume

executive powers this spring, provided the peace talks do not break

down.

Based in Stormont with political correspondent Dan McGinn, Cowan is

heading PA’s coverage of the Northern Ireland Assembly, which includes a

special parliamentary service, IrishFile. Subscribers to IrishFile

receive extensive coverage of the assembly and Irish interest news

stories not included in PA’s main service.

PA Ireland editor Deric Henderson said: ’Rosie Cowan and Dan McGinn are

highly regarded by all sides at Stormont.’
