Women in PR group joins PRCA weeks after quitting the CIPR

The Women in PR group is joining the PRCA just weeks after resigning from fellow industry trade body the CIPR.

Effective from 1 July, the WPR will become a sectoral group of the PRCA, with president Gillian Waddell becoming a member of the newly created PR Council.

The 250-strong WPR group will retain its operational independent as part of the deal, but will become part of the braoder PRCA umbrella.

PRCA director-general Francis Ingham said of the partnership: ‘WPR represents some of the most senior and most vibrant women in our industry, and we are thrilled to be able to announce this agreement with them.’

Waddell added: ‘WPR is grateful to the CIPR for the support it has offered us over the past five years. Our decision to leave followed a long period of consultation and deliberation and was not taken lightly. We now look forward to an exciting future with the PRCA.’

PRWeek reported last month that the WPR had resigned from the CIPR and was in talks with the PRCA. Waddell said the group had resigned from the CIPR because members thought there were 'few attempts at proactivity'.

At the time, CIPR president Jay O'Connor said: 'Women in PR has a long history as a social, independent group and we respect their decision to become independent once again. As for the criticisms, we listen to feedback and we will respond where appropriate, in a constructive manner.
‘What I would say is that the CIPR has a crystal clear view on its plans to support members and the profession and we are delivering on this. We know exactly where we are going and are working hard to communicate this to members. We will keep talking to members and we will continue with our plans.'
