Norwich Union, the UK’s fourth-largest general insurance firm, has

handed its six-figure financial and investor relations brief to

Financial Dynamics.

The account was awarded following a five-way pitch which included

incumbent agency Brunswick, Ludgate Communications, Hogarth Partnership

and Hill and Knowlton.

The six-strong account team at FD will be led by managing director

Charles Watson and director Giles Sanderson. The team will report to

Norwich Union’s director of corporate communications and investor

relations, Rebecca Burrows.

FD’s remit covers financial and corporate PR. It also includes advice

through FD’s financial services team to some of Norwich Union’s

operating companies on a project basis, including the launch this week

of Norwich Union International, a new offshore division based in

Dublin.

Norwich Union has maintained long-term relationships with QBO for

consumer PR, and Hill and Knowlton for public affairs. H&K’s brief is

currently being reviewed, with a decision expected by next week. The

company also maintains a ten-strong press office under media relations

head James Duffell, who reports to Burrows, to handle relations with the

trade press and day-to-day media enquiries.

The company upgraded its top PR post last year following the departure

of corporate affairs manager Raymond Wilson. Burrows, who saw

communications added to her investor relations portfolio, instituted a

review of the entire group’s PR function.
