Hill and Knowlton has been appointed by US-based mobile phone
advertising firm Spotcast Communications to handle its European media
relations, in the run-up to a summer launch in the UK and France.
The six-figure fee account was won after a two-way pitch against Text
Spotcast offers a discounted mobile phone service in exchange for
listening to ten-second advertisements before the subscriber’s call is
H&K will oversee communications as Spotcast begins to sign up European
partners, and will start by introducing Spotcast to the European
telecoms and media industries. It has already introduced the Spotcast
board to UK opinion formers in London. Virginia McLean, board director
at H&K, will lead the account.
’As different bits of the programme develop, we will change the team. It
is largely business-to-business at the moment but will increasingly
become more consumer-oriented,’ she said.
H&K’s appointment follows its hiring by the WAP Forum to launch wireless
application protocol services on mobile phones in Europe by the end of
the year (PR Week, 18 February).
