Unilever government relations head Cliff Grantham has been promoted

to the post of UK communications and public affairs head with a brief to

expand his department.

In addition to his existing public affairs remit, Grantham takes over

communications responsibility from external relations head Bob Harcourt,

who has retired after three years.

Grantham reports to Unilever UK chairman Richard Greenhalgh and oversees

seven staff at the moment. He is seeking to recruit a further two

people.

His remit covers PR, community and government relations, internal

communications and sponsorship for Unilever’s UK national management

team, which runs the company’s UK businesses.

Grantham will co-operate with the communications team at Unilever’s

corporate centre, which is headed by global corporate affairs chief

Michel Obretech and operates alongside the UK national management

team.

Before joining Unilever last year, Grantham was public affairs head for

the London Stock Exchange for four years.

He has already appointed Fishburn Hedges on a retainer as UK public

affairs agency for the UK management team.

F-H won the account after a competitive pitch against Politics

International, Shandwick and incumbent Burson-Marsteller, which is

Unilever’s global agency of record (PR Week, 29 January).

B-M continues to work on ad hoc public affairs projects for the company.
