Public relations coup of the week goes to new economy PR agency Mantra and its directors Debbie Wosskow and Laurence Dore.

Public relations coup of the week goes to new economy PR agency

Mantra and its directors Debbie Wosskow and Laurence Dore.

Wosskow was meeting Sky television executives for a discussion of where

her 15-strong client list fitted into their editorial agenda, when it

was suggested that both the agency and one of its largest clients should

star in an upcoming documentary about internet start-ups called, er,

Upstarts.

Wosskow, 26, welcomed the crew from independent production company

Illumina to the agency’s Brook Street offices last week, with the

results due to be broadcast at the end of next month.

Her client Magicalia - a sports internet site for those partial to a

spot of surfing, fishing, boating or biking - has also allowed the

cameras in, to get a glimpse of young people running successful

businesses.

While others may baulk at the perils of appearing in a fly-on-the-wall

documentary, Wosskow is confident.

’You spend your whole time training clients to go in front of the

media,’ Wosskow says. ’When you have to put into practice what you get

paid to preach, it’s easy.’

Illumina filmed Mantra’s interviewing process as it whittled down a

field of ten graduates to just three to whom job offers were made.

Interviewed by Wosskow and Dore, the graduates were slightly on

edge.

’As if being grilled by us wasn’t stressful enough, they had to do it

all in front of the television cameras,’ says Wosskow.
