Austin, TX: Juleanna Glover Weiss has joined Republican

vice-presidential nominee Dick Cheney as his press secretary.

Having worked under top Republican strategist and Weekly Standard editor

Bill Kristol, Weiss should prove to be a perfect fit for Cheney.

While not considered a spellbinding campaigner, Bush strategists believe

Cheney will perform ably before smaller groups of voters and in

editorial board meetings.

Weiss will be working primarily out of Bush headquarters in Austin. Dirk

Vande Beek, who previously worked with Cheney at energy company

Halliburton, assumes the title of communications director and will hit

the campaign trail with the candidate.

Weiss served as a senior policy adviser for Senator John Ashcroft during

the 2000 presidential race. After Ashcroft backed out, Weiss became

press secretary for publishing magnate Steve Forbes during his

presidential push. When that effort collapsed, Weiss briefly joined new

York mayor Rudy Giuliani for his senate campaign before he pulled out of

the race.
