The company responsible for Doc Marten’s shoes and boots has

appointed its first ever public affairs consultancy.

DLA Upstream, the lobbying arm of top ten UK law firm Dibb Lupton Alsop,

started work last week for the Griggs Group, the company that makes and

distributes ’Docs’ in the UK and around the world.

The privately-owned company, based in Northampton, was already a client

of the law firm, and has now drafted in its public affairs team to

provide access to opinion-formers in government, the civil service and

the media.

Parliamentary monitoring and a contact-building programme are central to

the DLA brief, with occasional strategic advice available when

necessary.

’Doc Marten’s is recognised as a quintessentially English brand and the

firm wants to ensure that the brand and the company is known by the

decision-making community,’ said Kevin Craig, UK account director at DLA

Upstream.

Craig will lead a team of three on the account, reporting to Griggs’

group administration director Howard Johnstone. ’Our sector is

fast-moving and faces a lot of challenges. It is important that our

size, heritage and activities are understood by government,’ Johnstone

said.

Griggs employs over 2,500 staff in a number of factories across

Northamptonshire, Somerset and Leicestershire.
