Food and drinks giant Cadbury Schweppes has hived off a portion of

its external affairs director’s job to create a new post of community

and public affairs manager.

Alex Cole takes up the post later this month. She joins from Cadbury

Schweppes’ retained public affairs consultancy AS Biss and Co.

The job has until now been handled within external affairs chief Neil

Makin’s role. Cole will report to Makin, who will remain in more direct

control of government affairs and environmental issues. The PR function

remains separate, under director of corporate communications Sally

Jones.

Both chocolate manufacturer Cadbury, and drinks arm Schweppes, maintain

separate communications teams for their respective businesses. Schweppes

in the UK was sold to the Coca-Cola company in a pounds 600 million

disposal last year, but Cadbury Schweppes retains the name in other

global markets.

Due to the management set-up at AS Biss, Cole will not be immediately

replaced. Other staff handling the account, including consultant Kate

Ellis and managing director Jeremy Sweeney, will step into the breach

while AS Biss founder and chairman Adele Biss recruits more widely into

the agency.
