US children’s clothing retailer Gymboree has appointed Biss

Lancaster to support its store opening programme across the UK.

San Francisco-based Gymboree currently has six stores in the UK and

Ireland, and plans to open a further 20 in the UK this year.

Biss Lancaster’s responsibilities will also include building the

Gymboree brand and marketing activities from point of sale material to

brochure copy.

Gymboree has 450 stores across the US and Canada, selling colourful

quality clothing for children up to seven years old. The clothing,

accessories and toys are designed to stimulate early childhood

development.

Michelle Waldron, consultant director at Biss Lancaster, said that the

stores would be positioned alongside Baby Gap and Next

Children’swear.

The Gymboree Corporation was founded in 1976 as an interactive play

programme, with the first stores opening in 1986. Its philosophy

actively promotes the celebration of childhood, with pushchair-friendly

stores and its proposition that ’kids should look like kids, not little

adults’.

In its financial results for 1996, the Gymboree Corporation reported a

turnover of over dollars 303 million.
