The Sports Council for Wales has poached John Jenkins from the Bro

Taf Health Authority to take over as its public affairs manager.

Jenkins replaces Malcolm Williams who left the sports council in April

to join BT as corporate relations manager for Wales. Jenkins will

oversee a team of six and reports to chief executive Dr Huw Jones. The

brief covers the whole of the council’s PR effort.

’The first thing I have to do is find a name for a new initiative

setting up junior sports clubs, which launches in November, and then

market that brand,’ he said.

After working as a teacher, Jenkins first went into PR at BBC Wales

before joining South Glamorgan District Health Authority in 1990. When

the four health authorities in Mid and South Glamorgan merged into Bro

Taf, he took over as PR officer.
