Enterprise Oil, Britain’s leading oil and gas exploration company,

is on the verge of appointing Bell Pottinger Communications to handle

its financial PR, investor relations and public affairs.

Financial PR was previously handled by the Maitland Consultancy, Frew

McMaster handled investor relations and GPC Market Access ran the public

affairs account.

Enterprise reviewed its PR accounts last month (PR Week, 10 April) with

a view to appointing a single agency across the board and saw 12

agencies in total.

Ray Dafter, Enterprise Oil’s director of corporate affairs, to whom Bell

Pottinger will report, confirmed he is in final contractual negotiations

with the agency. He said: ’The aim is to consolidate and coordinate our

communication so that we can handle it more efficiently and more

cost-effectively. It was no reflection on the work of the incumbent

agencies, all of whom have done first class work.’

Enterprise Oil had used the Maitland Consultancy for over ten years,

Frew McMaster for two-and-a-half years and Market Access for less than a

year.

Enterprise’s main exploration interests span the North Sea, the Adriatic

and the Mexican Gulf. It has ten offices around the world and employs

local PR agencies in those countries, who report to local Enterprise Oil

general managers and handle crisis communications and media relations.
