Financial services companies have overcome traditional media opprobrium

by topping the latest Presswatch Quarterly report. Nine of the ten top

companies in this quarter’s quantitative analysis of UK national press

coverage were from the financial arena.

Perpetual was top with a rating of 952; with National Savings third on

853; Nationwide fourth with 770; and Northern Rock and Bradford and

Bingley, equal fifth with 757.

The other top ten companies were Schroders, Legal and General, Fidelity

Gartmore and Orange, with the latter being the only non-financial

services company.

Belinda Taylor, head of Biss Lancaster Financial, said financial

companies were now more aware of the need for good communication. But

she stressed that the level of coverage could be linked to high activity

in the sector.

British Gas came bottom of the league for the fifth time in six

quarterly surveys.
